It was recently announced that fitness guru Kayla Itsines was embarking on a world tour! When I had heard she would be visiting London I knew I had to grab a ticket! An opportunity that could not be missed! But having missed out on her first announcement I was truly gutted. But with surprise Kayla decided to hold a second boot camp for us girls due to popular demand (her first set of tickets sold out within 30 minutes) My only chance to grab one!
I went along last Saturday filled with mixed emotions, not knowing what to expect! Having followed so many girls who have been to previous Kayla bootcamps, many expressed how it was an experience they would never forget and how they left feeling motivated and inspired. Having never been to a bootcamp before I just felt a little skeptical as to what it would consist of and whether it would be worth the drive into London. But who was I kidding, this is my only opportunity to meet my idol and fitspiration who I have been following for so many months.
There were hordes of us, excitingly chatting away on our yoga mats about Kayla and fitness in general, filling up every ounce of the Olympian West Hall. The numbers truly spoke for itself!
We were given an introduction of health and safety regulations by her gorgeous hunk of a boyfriend Tobi, as well as drawing upon the excitement of Kaylas arrival! We were told that the only way to get Kayla to arrive was to answer her simple question: 'who run's the world?' and the whole hall roared 'GIRLS!'
Then the moment we had all been waiting for... Kayla's arrival! She came out like the fitness guru she is with her hard rock abs, slender physique, built full of power! The hall was electric! Thousands of girls screaming, cheering, applauding! as she walked past me I was in complete and utter awe! I was a little scared as to what sort of workout we were in for considering how horrendous her guides can be! Yes, it was hard (truly was #deathbyKayla) but it also filled my body with endorphins and provoked fire and motivation! the workout consisted of squats, burpees, commandos, and push ups! 'Not man push ups, just push ups' (a little word of motivation from Kayla herself).
Yes the workout was tough! We were covered in sweat and felt exhausted but her down to earth nature and her overwhelming sense of kindness enabled us girls to push our selves to the limit! She spoke of how us girls are a community and 'if one girl stops then those around you will stop, so we must work as a team!'
I came away from the session feeling truly inspired and motivated, having witnessed Kayla's passion for fitness and healthy well-being. She expressed that fitness is not only physical but also psychological! Teaching women to squat and how to do a burpee with correct form is one thing but teaching women to love your body during the process is another!
Everyday women and girls are constantly beat up if there bodies don't look a particular way, 'I want to be skinny like her, I want abs like her, I want a thigh gap' blah blah blah. Kayla has taught me that we need to take a step back and appreciate our bodies, and witness what they are truly capable of doing during the process! Treat it right and your body will respect you! Kayla's passion in wanting to make women engage in a healthy lifestyle and to incorporate it into their regular routine whilst teaching women to love their bodies, is a passion of mine I also wish to fulfil!
Thank you Kayla!
